ultrasonic cleaning

A method used to clean debris, swarf, and foreign material from surfaces by immersing them in a solvent excited with ultrasonic vibrations. Items like filters and bearings are immersed in cleansing fluid and are cleaned by vibrating fluid. Ultrasonic frequencies are not audible to the human ear, and the cleaning process is done at frequencies above about 15 kHz.
